Freeway congratulates I, Daniel Blake and American Honey on Cannes success

22 May 2016 - Freeway Entertainment

This year’s Cannes Film Festival has been a triumph for a number of Freeway’s film and entertainment clients with I, Daniel Blake directed by Ken Loach, written by Paul Laverty and produced by Rebecca O’Brien winning the prestigious Palme d’or award, marking the second time the director/writer/producer team have won the festival’s top prize after The Wind That Shakes The Barley in 2006.

Also a major success at Cannes was Andrea Arnold’s American Honey in winning the coveted Jury Prize starring breakout newcomer Sasha Lane and Shia LaBeouf.  The success of American Honey marked a hat-trick for Arnold having previously won the Jury Prize with her first feature film Red Road in 2006, the year she stood on the same podium as Ken Loach, and then three years later with Fish Tank.

Martijn Meerstadt said: “Cannes is always a highpoint for Freeway during the year as we work on supporting our clients, however seeing I, Daniel Blake and American Honey win the Palme d’Or and the Jury Prize makes it a very special year.  We are delighted for everyone involved with these fantastic films and congratulate them on their success.”
